Official visit of the EMCDDA Director to Spain

EMCDDA Director Alexis Goosdeel was in Spain today as part of an on-going series of official visits to the EU Member States.

The visit began at the Spanish national plan on drugs (Delegación del Gobierno para el Plan Nacional sobre Drogas/DGPNSD), where the Director was welcomed by Azucena Martí, Spanish Delegate for the PNSD and by members of its Management Committee. The purpose of the meeting was to look at the various faces of addiction and to discuss future strategies. The DGPNSD is the Spanish national focal point in the EMCDDA Reitox network.

The visit also included meetings with representatives of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP) and with experts from some of the EU-funded projects managed by this body, namely:

  • Cooperation Programme between Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union on Drugs Policies (COPOLAD);
  • Central Asia Drug Action Programme (CADAP);
  • EU action against drugs and organised crime (EU-ACT).

The EMCDDA participates in all three projects as outlined in its International Cooperation Framework.

The visit ended with a meeting at the Ministry of the Interior with Ángel Alonso, Director of the Intelligence Centre against Terrorism and Organised Crime (CITCO). This body analyses strategic information on the fight against all types of serious and organised crime, terrorism and violent radicalism and designs strategies against these threats.
