Description / Type of assessment: The questionnaire is divided into 3 sections concerning the relationship with parents, with peers and with teachers. Each section consists of 35 items. The respondant has to choose one of the four statements of the semantic differential.
Primary use / Purpose: The TRI test can be use as an instrument to evaluate the global inter-personal relationship and/or to evaluate each of the five dimensions that the test investigates, with the aim to facilitate the clinical analysis of the target population. The test can be individually administrated or to groups of students, it can be thus be considered as a screening instrument as well as diagnostic.
Domains measured / Life Areas / Problems Assessed: The TRI test has been specifically developed to evaluate the perception of children and adolescents concerning the quality of their relationship among the social, familiar and school context.
Population: Children and adolescents aged 9-19 years.
Administration / Completion time: No time limit is given to compilers, generally it takes about 20 minutes to fill in the questionnaire.
Scoring procedures: In the manual, but also easy to find on the web.
Scoring time: 3-5 minutes
Credentials/Training:

The TRI test is structured to be administrating not only by psychologists but also by trained teachers. The test is self-reported, the compiler is allowed to ask advice concerning the linguistic comprehension. Even if the test can be easily administrated, its scoring requires psychometric knowledge and experience in the field of psychology. The operator should be trained in psychometric, personality theory, learning and developmental psychology.

Practicability / usefulness: The TRI test is useful in many fields: school, counseling, center for mental health, Department of Pediatrics’, Psychiatric Center's, caters for drug and alcohol treatment, Community Services. The test can be used in schools to make interdisciplinary assessments to find out the possible underlying motivations of a low scholastic performance or of an unacceptable behavior. Using TRI test in counseling or in clinical activity can help to make the diagnosis of maladjustment, to guide therapeutic interventions and to give the basis to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy. The TRI test is also an instrument for research purpose with the aim to investigate the possible correspondence between interpersonal relationship and other psychological construct. Moreover the TRI is an instrument for experimental design, test-retest and case-control study.
