To enable teenagers to make decisions regarding the use of drugs in relation to the other problems typically affecting this age group.
Teenagers in Majorca, as in the rest of Spain, mostly use alcohol, tobacco and hashish, alcohol being the main drug of abuse. There is a pattern in starting to take drugs in some cases, the use of one particular type of drug preparing the person for the use of others. Taking into account that the decision to use a particular substance depends upon a person's capacity for making responsible decisions, the programme "Tú decides" [It's up to you] is a means of offering practical and effective preventive education. This has been shown by 19 years of implementation and the evaluations carried out so far. The programme is aimed at teenagers in schools from the age of 13 to 16. It can also be adapted to other non-school environments, provided that continuous work can be carried out with the participants. The general aim of the programme is to enable teenagers to make decisions regarding the use of drugs in relation to the other problems typically affecting this age group.
