Health Promotion Programme for the Prisoners and Employees of Koridallos Judicial Prison

Process evaluation

Operational objectives

To monitor and report the existing conditions within the prison and to assess the needs of the prisoners and the prison staff. To provide support to the prison's human and technical infrastructure (i.e. the prison's staff and the medical unit), which would facilitate harm reduction from drugs and better correspondence to prisoner's health needs.

Process indicators

Monitoring of the following variables, through on-site procedures and questionnaires administration: a) Living conditions of prisoners and related problems, b) Data on the operation and use of prison's services (i.e., medical unit, social service) and related needs, c) Relationships among and between prisoners and staff, d) Health problems, drug use problems.

a) On the spot observation of the medical unit operation, b) ¿bservation of the keeping of the personal health records, c) Degree of absorption of the health equipment, d) Degree of use of the "illness profile" of the prisoners (i.e., for necessary medical tests).

Specific objective 1

To raise prisoners' awareness on health issues, especially on infectious diseases prevention and on harm reduction practices.

Outcome indicator 1

a) Quantitative data regarding the prisoners' participation at the lectures (i.e. increase or decrease of the turn-out, active and unrequested participation, etc.); b) monitoring of the leaflets/brochures circulation; c) turn-out of the prisoners at the medical unit; c) assessment of the change in prisoners' knowledge and behaviour with regard to health issues.
