Description / Type of Assessment:

EITC is a semi-structured interview. It contains open and closed questions on each domain.

Primary use / Purpose:

SD-TC was designed to provide information useful for structure and process evaluation in residential therapeutic communities for substance misusers.

Domains measured / Life Areas / Problems Assessed:

Domains related with the treatment processes: implementation, functional competence of the human resources and social climate. Domains related with the structure of the treatment program: human and physical resources. (1) Identification data; (2) Treatment; (3) Services; (4) Professionals; (5) Residents and (6) General aspects.

Population:

EITC is designed to be used with Residents (version for residents) and Staff and Directives (Version for the Technical team).

Administration / Completion Time:

Approximately 40 minutes.

Scoring Procedures:

Open questions provide detailed information on the feedback on each domain. Closed questions provide a measure for evaluation on these domains in terms of their acceptance and adequacy.

Scoring Time:

Less than 10 minutes.

Credentials/Training:

External evaluator. Psychologist or other trained professionals.

Practicability / usefulness:

EITC may be a useful instrument for process evaluation in residential programs for substance misusers. It allow to detect the strengths and weaknesses of the program, providing useful information for further improvements and quality management.

Comments:

The SD-TC should be applied once the residents know the program functioning. The moments most suitable are after four months of residential treatment and at the end of treatment.
