Network tasks and activities
The activities undertaken by the European Information Network on Drugs and Drug Addiction (Reitox) are divided into core tasks (mandatory) and additional tasks (voluntary).
The core tasks are:
- to update the National reports produced by the National focal points describing the drug situation at national level;
- to contribute to the information system on demand reduction activities (EDDRA);
- to update the information maps produced by the Focal points (except for the demand-reduction section, which is covered by EDDRA);
- to participate at national level in the early-warning system established by the June 1997 Joint action on new synthetic drugs; and
- to carry out networking and animation activities nationally, in order to encourage and facilitate the implementation by the Member State of the exisiting the five epidemiological harmonised key indicators.
Additional, voluntary activities include working with the EMCDDA on the conceptualisation of the following new targets:
- reduction of negative impacts on health;
- youth prevalence;
- successful treatments;
- availability;
- drug-related crime (laundering/precursors);
- implementation of policy and of demand reduction;
- implementation of dissemination activitity; and
- contribution to the enlargement strategy.
The Reitox coordination team at the EMCDDA is responsible for animating the network.
