Co-ordination, as a policy instrument responding to the complex phenomenon of drugs, has been strongly recommended for the past 15 years by a whole series of texts, both national and international. This principle of action is not merely recognised as indispensable, it is also implemented both in the Member States and at Community level, in more or less ideal or systematic ways in different instances.The EMCDDA is since 2001 engaged in ensuring monitoring and up to date information on coordination models and mechanisms implemented in the enlarged European Union.

About the EMCDDA

The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) is the reference point on drugs and drug addiction information in Europe. Inaugurated in Lisbon in 1995, it is one of the EU's decentralised agencies. Read more >>
