In 2010, a new UK drug strategy 'Reducing Demand, Restricting Supply, Building Recovery: Supporting People to Live a Drug Free Life' was adopted. The strategy is structured around three themes: reducing demand, restricting supply and Building recovery in communities. There is limited devolution of powers to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and each of these countries has its own strategy ('New Strategic Direction for Alcohol and Drugs' in Northern Ireland 2006–2011; 'The Road to Recovery: A New Approach to Tackling Scotland’s Drug problem' (2008); 'Working Together to Reduce Harm: The Substance Misuse Strategy for Wales' 2008–2018).

About the EMCDDA

The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) is the reference point on drugs and drug addiction information in Europe. Inaugurated in Lisbon in 1995, it is one of the EU’s decentralised agencies. Read more >>
