Statement by EMCDDA Director Wolfgang Götz at the 51st session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND)
The 51st session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs took place in Vienna from 10–14 March 2008.
This session was significant in that it launched the review of the implementation of goals set at the 20th UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on drugs in 1998.
The statement by the EMCDDA Director was delivered during the thematic debate on the follow-up to UNGASS: ‘General overview and progress achieved by Governments in meeting the goals and targets for the years 2003 and 2008 set out in the Political Declaration adopted by the Assembly at its
20th Special Session’. Specifically it fell under the sub-category of drug demand reduction.
