Candidate and potential candidate countries

The current enlargement agenda of the European Union covers the countries of the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo* Montenegro, Serbia) Turkey and Iceland.

Since many years already, the EMCDDA cooperates with candidate and potential candidate countries to the EU. The EMCDDA develops and implements technical cooperation projects financed by the Instrument of Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) of the European Commission. The ultimate goals of these projects are to familiarise these countries with EU policies and working methods and preparing them for participating in the work of the EMCDDA.

The EMCDDA just concluded the IPA 4 technical cooperation project and will launch a new one called IPA 5 in April 2015.
